“Primitive religion prepared the soil of the human mind, by the powerful and awesome force of false fear, for the bestowal of a bona fide spiritual force of supernatural origin, the Thought Adjuster.” 86:7.6 (957.2)
Primitive religion, though often shaped by superstition and misunderstanding, played an essential role in humanity’s spiritual evolution. In its early forms, it awakened in the human mind an awareness of forces greater than itself—an awe that, though rooted in false fear, created space for something higher to take root. This reverence, however imperfect, softened the soil of the soul for deeper truths.
Into this prepared ground came the divine gift of the Thought Adjuster—a fragment of God Himself, dwelling within the human mind. This shift marked the great transition from trembling before imagined deities to walking with the living God. What was once shaped by fear became transformed by love, guidance, and the promise of eternal fellowship with the Father.
Our spiritual journey often mirrors this history. Many begin with misconceptions, limited understanding, or even fear of God. Yet the moment we open our hearts to His true nature, His indwelling presence transforms our motives, our vision, and our destiny. Fear may have prepared the soil, but it is love that produces the harvest.
