"The religion of Jesus is salvation from self, deliverance from the evils of creature isolation in time and in eternity." 5:4.5 (67.3)
One of the quietest prisons we live in is the one built around the self—our fears, our egos, our endless preoccupations with what we need, how we look, what we lack, or how we’ve been hurt. Left unchecked, self-centeredness becomes a slow erosion of connection, purpose, and peace. The religion of Jesus doesn’t just promise moral improvement—it offers freedom from that inward captivity.
This deliverance isn’t harsh—it’s liberating. Jesus invites us out of the cramped, anxious world of self and into the expansive life of love, community, and eternal belonging. When we follow him, we learn that salvation isn’t only a rescue from wrong—it’s a release into wholeness. Into seeing others. Into being seen. Into the quiet confidence that we are not alone, not forgotten, not bound to our mistakes or our isolation.
And this salvation doesn’t just apply to eternity—it begins in time, right now, every time we open the door to connection, compassion, and purpose that transcends the self.
